Beyond the Gates Shocker: Is Doug… Alive?!?

They say that you never forget your first time, and Beyond the Gates looks like it’s about to roll out an especially momentous one. (And no, we don’t mean the tryst that Tyrell and Jessica have in store.) The week of May 18, the new soap on the block may be about to bring its first character back from the dead.

What Happened to Doug?

You’ll recall that back in the fall of 2025, Doug McBride was at an all-time low. His gambling addiction was spiraling out of control. He was drinking like a fish. Wife Vanessa was sleeping with Joey Armstrong. And worst of all, the mobster had declared his romantic rival a dead man walking.

Actually, no. Worst of all was Jacob declaring that Doug had perished in a car accident. But did he, really?

Could Doug Be Alive?

After the wreck, Joey’s flunky Marcel assured the boss that, as far as the world was concerned, Doug’s death was an accident. However, teasers for the week ahead hint that that death should have been in air quotes. How so?

First of all, Doug’s son Donnell is a no-show at the cotillion — and no way would he leave Samantha in the lurch if something extreme wasn’t going on. Second of all, the chaos that erupts at the cotillion leaves Vanessa grilling her loverboy.

The Proof Is In the Pudding

Here’s where we get really convinced that Doug is about to stage the ultimate comeback. As the week ends, Donnell hits his mother with some difficult questions, then confronts Joey. And while Kat offers sage advice to Deanna, one of the McBrides has a stunning reunion. Who else could they be reuniting with but the “late” Doug?
